Corporate Music > Victoria
We’ve provided acoustic duos for conferences in Central Victoria, bands for business launches in Ballarat, soloists for staff parties in South Gippsland, and DJs for exhibitions in Echuca. Read about the corporate events we’ve performed at in some of the best conference venues in Victoria.
Hepburn Musician
One of the locals I know from my gigs at The Blackwood Hotel works at Hepburn Shire Council. She recommended me to the council for a couple of volunteer thank you events they were holding. Teams of volunteers in both towns work tirelessly to provide services for the less fortunate and clean up after emergencies like storms and bushfires. The events were held at Daylesford Football Netball Club and Creswick Football Netball Club.

These events were a chance for the council and its ratepayers to give back to the volunteers. A delicious meal was provided by Trentham caterers Emma James Catering, and live acoustic music by yours truly. They were an older crowd (volunteers trend older and female) so it was a good opportunity to pull out some of the older songs I know but don’t often get a chance to play.

I wasn’t the only entertainment at these events. Two caricaturists had been hired, and were very popular with the attendees. Gavin Bell (above) was at the Daylesford event. Very friendly guy and fantastic artist. Anthony Pascoe did the event in Creswick. I’d worked with Anthony before at a corporate event in Melbourne for ATE Tankers, so it was good to catch up with him again. During a quiet moment I even sat for my portrait. I told him to be as brutal as he liked. Think he could have gone harder to be honest!

In between my sets there were speeches by council figures and heads of volunteer organisations. A guest speaker from Australian Red Cross was present at both events and was paid with a spontaneous hug from a Creswick local.

After all the formalities were over I turned up the volume and kicked into some dancing music. Being a weeknight and armed with only my guitar and voice I wasn’t sure what to expect, but volunteers are mostly pretty outgoing people, and I got a little dance floor happening both nights. Love ending an event on a high note.
Macedon Ranges Acoustic Duo
We’ve been doing weddings at Lancemore Macedon Ranges since 2015. So when they needed live music for a brand launch they called us. Previously the venue was known as Spring Hill Estate. However Lancemore Group (who own Lindenderry on the Mornington Peninsula and Werribee Mansion among others) acquired the venue it was time for a rebrand. It was an invite-only event for their corporate clients. Although they do many weddings, Lancemore’s bread and butter is corporate events. This was a chance to familiarise their clients with the new brand, introduce them to the venue, and thank them for their patronage.

The first part of the event was held on top of the hill overlooking the venue. This location has an incredible view of the countryside looking towards Kilmore. Although it’s a bit of a trek up and down the hill, the venue’s staff are more than happy to ferry you back and forth in their offroad vehicles. For this event they had a firepit and bar set up, as well as info booths for each of Lancemore’s venues. Our acoustic duo set up next to the bar and commenced performing upbeat background music. Despite there being no power on site our battery-powered system filled the area with sound.

For dinner we all went back down the hill to the venue. We continued performing as a duo over the meal. Now we had power, drum set, and piano, so we could create a more full sound. But as the spec was background vibes throughout we kept it pretty subdued nonetheless. All in all a successful event, and the clients really seemed to enjoy the afternoon.
Marysville DJ
What do we love about corporate events? Well, one thing is when they happen. They’re often during the week. That means they don’t clash with our usual weddings and parties. And companies often hold their conferences and other corporate events in the middle of the year, which is quiet season for us. There’s literally nothing not to like about them.

The conferences we did for Bupa in Marysville are a case in point. They were held on two consecutive Wednesday nights in winter. So of course we had a winter theme. Bupa staff dressed up in ski gear, and the room was decorated to match, along with a cool wintry animated backdrop.

They hired me to DJ the awards nights they held after each conference. For one of the nights we also provided a soloist playing live acoustic music at pre-dinner drinks. Professional AV was provided by Ultra Vision & Audio, so all I had to do was walk in with my laptop and controller and plug in. Looked and sounded amazing.

They were a fun crew and the party got wild after the awards were done, with a packed dance floor all night and plenty of karaoke. After a long and possibly boring day at a conference employees do tend to cut loose and party.
San Remo DJ & Sax
Philip Morris Australia hired us to provide DJ and sax a their corporate event. It was only a small one – about 35 people – held in a fairly large room. Always a challenge. But they were such a great bunch of people that they made it work (with some help from us). Their chosen venue was Silverwater Resort in San Remo. It’s situated on the road leading towards Phillip Island just before you get to San Remo, on a hill overlooking Westernport Bay. Fantastic spot, and a really friendly and well-run venue.

The theme they went with was “Timeless”. We wouldn’t usually recommend vague themes like this, but the staff obviously interpreted it with plenty of licence, because we saw all kinds of costumes. There were several bogans, The Riddler from Batman, devils, nuns, and these two ghouls who (literally) grabbed me for a quick photo before the event began:

The staff gave me a cool list of “timeless” songs to spin – everything from Metallica to Michael Jackson. Saxophonist Stuart and I kicked in with some chill background music over dinner, then we ramped things up.
Despite being such a small group the staff clearly loved their music and smashed the dance floor. It wasn’t long before I was handing out my wireless microphone for some karaoke. The bogan-costumed boss singing The Horses by Daryl Braithwaite was the highlight.
