Read about real corporate events we’ve played at and discover some of the best corporate event venues in Melbourne.

Moonee Ponds Musician

Hamton Property group are the builders of the Moonee Valley Park development in Moonee Ponds, Melbourne. This is a huge apartment complex beside Mooney Valley race track. They originally hired me to provide live acoustic music for one of their buyer events. This was a meet-and-greet for all the new residents who were moving in to the apartments. It was held at adjacent TOTE Bar & Dining.

We performed at two subsequent events of this type. Always a nice vibe. Part of the attraction of these apartments is the sense of community, which Hamton go to a lot of effort to encourage. And many of the residents are young families.

We were then invited to perform at the residents’ Christmas party. This was held in the outdoor space within the apartment complex itself. For this they hired our acoustic trio. It was a fun, relaxed afternoon and we even got some dancers. Santa himself hit the d-floor and demonstrated some moves!

The following night myself and saxophonist Stuart were invited to an event for the development’s construction team and consultants. It was held in the Display Gallery, which overlooks the race track. There were a few punters among the guests, and they could watch the races and cheer on their horses from the balcony. It was a fun night. The boss even got up and sang Crazy by Gnarls Barkley with us (he’s an ex-professional musician so nailed it).

South Wharf Acoustic Duo

Cargo Hall is a former docking shed, repurposed as an event space in 2013. It’s situated on South Wharf Promenade, opposite the Melbourne Convention Centre. It has a large hall for the main event, and a glass conservatory running alongside and overlooking the Yarra River, perfect for pre-dinner drinks.

Sydney event production company Vanilla Bean Events contacted us about providing live music for a 40th anniversary dinner there for food processing and packaging company TNA Solutions. As a proud Australian company, TNA had gone with an Aussie theme. So saxophonist Stuart and I pulled out all the Aussie classics. But we weren’t the only entertainment at this event, and we got to witness an art auction by artist Brad Blaze, and some Aboriginal dancing, and didgeridoo:

After dinner and all the formalities were wrapped out I got behind the decks and DJ’d the rest of the night, including spinning some requests for Bollywood music (bit unexpected).

Melbourne Acoustic Duo

As far as memorable venues go, this one would be right up there. Old Melbourne Gaol is a truly unique space for a corporate event. If those walls could talk… I joke that some of my ancestors probably spent time there. But it’s a distinct possibility. As with any heritage building there are some challenges when it comes to providing live music. It’s an extremely long, narrow hallway. You have to squeeze everything into a poky corner in front of a staircase. It’s dark. It echoes. Power is hard to reach. But who cares? It’s awesome.

Architecture firm Rothelowman hired our acoustic duo and DJ for their work Christmas function. We kicked off with some acoustic music over pre-dinner drinks. Snuck Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash in, because why wouldn’t you? In between meal service guests went on ghost tours around the Gaol. And of course we all got to see the infamous noose where criminals were hung, and the famous armour worn by bushranger Ned Kelly.

After dinner the staff hit the dance floor. They were a fun and exuberant bunch. And when I got a request for AC/DC what do you think I chose? Jailbreak of course.

Chirnside Park Band

IT company Infoready hired our four piece band for their party at Yarra Valley Lodge in Chirnside Park. And of course we had to test out the masks at the photo booth. You simply can’t leave musicians unsupervised for even a minute.

The band played some acoustic-style tunes over dinner. Then the staff hit the dance floor and we ramped things up. They were a fun crew who loved their music, and we got to witness some wild dancing.

The client asked me to DJ the last half hour. This was a great way to get in all the song requests people had made over the course of the night that the band didn’t know.
