Yarra Valley Wedding Musician

I first met Nina and Fred on a wild and windy night on St Kilda Pier. Why? Because Fred was proposing to Nina! He’d hired me as the musician (and to bring the flowers). Here we are after the deed was done, with a random passerby taking the photo for us:

They didn’t waste any time, and I received a call from Nina only a few months later asking if I could play at their wedding. Unfortunately I was unavailable that night, so they booked another DJ. However my other booking fell through, and when Fred and Nina heard about it they cancelled their DJ and hired me instead, losing their deposit in the process. Suffice to say I was blown away that they would go to so much trouble and expense just to have me there.

They held their wedding at Yering Station, a magnificent and sprawling venue in the Yarra Valley. Fred is German and Nina Iranian, so we had Bach’s cello suites for pre-ceremony music in the cellar, and some amazing Persian violin music during the reception. We had a special treat during the reception, with Nina jumping up to sing Your Song by Elton John with me. She has a good voice and this made a lovely gesture to her husband.

Yarra Valley Acoustic Duo

Simone and Rebecca had planned to hold their wedding in January 2018. However at the time they booked us same sex marriage wasn’t legal. So we were all thrilled when the plebiscite delivered a resoundng Yes and the Marriage Act was amended on 9th December 2017, just in time for their wedding!

They held their wedding at a private property in Panton Hill. It was an extremely hot and windy day, and I felt sorry for them being married out in the hot sun (we didn’t play at the ceremony), but they’d hired a fantastic tepee for the reception. They’d hired our acoustic duo to play at the cocktails and first half of the reception. I switched to DJ after the speeches and first dance. Here they are making their entrance:
 

 
 
Highlight for me was the father/daughter dance (two dads, two daughters) to God Only Knows by the Beach Boys, one of my all-time favourite songs.

Yarra Valley Wedding Band

We love playing at Yarra Ranges Estate in Monbulk. Why? The people! Anton and Anna are the hilarious couple who run it, and they make every event fun. So we were thrilled to hear that Widya and Dan had booked it for their “Day at the Races” themed wedding. Widya and Dan are an outgoing and friendly couple and it was a high-energy wedding with lots of funny moments.
 

 
 
They booked our four piece band for their Yarra Ranges wedding. We performed over cocktails and during the reception. The bridal party made a spectacular entrance to Oh Yeah by Yello. The couple chose Nobody Does It Better by Carly Simon for their first dance.

Then the band kicked off again to a packed dance floor. Very energetic crowd, especially for the bouquet toss!

Yarra Valley Wedding DJ

Hubert Estate might be my new favourite wedding venue in the Yarra Valley. Often we find bigger and better known venues to be a bit too efficient. You’re made to feel like you’re at a military camp, the staff treat you like servants, and they approach events like they’re on a production line. Hubert Estate is nothing like that. The team there are friendly and attentive, they treat you like guests, and go out of their way to work with you to make the event a success. Proof that a venue can be big and busy while still being warm and welcoming.

Ashleigh and Josh hired us to provide a male soloist, DJ, and MC for their Yarra Valley wedding. The soloist performed downstairs in the gallery for the ceremony and cocktails. The original plan was to hold it outside in the venue’s unique Amphitheatre space, but being June the weather was just too cold and wet. But Ash and Josh are a super chill couple and weren’t phased in the least. Ash and her bridal party walked down the aisle to Anyone by Justin Bieber. This is a song I hadn’t heard before. It’s beautiful. Yes, I’m a shameless Belieber.

After cocktails we moved upstairs to the reception room Harriett for dinner. This is a fantastic space, well-appointed with a high quality PA system, DJ table, and lighting. It’s such a pleasure to walk into a venue and simply plug in. Our DJ and MC Simon took the reins, introducing the bridal party, and keeping the night running on schedule. After speeches Simon welcomed Ash and Josh onto the dance floor for their first dance: I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith. The guests joined in halfway through, then Simon had a full dance floor through to the end of the reception.

Yarra Valley Singer & DJ

Our good friend Rick Liston recommended us to Vanessa and Zac for their Yarra Valley wedding at Olinda Yarra Estate (and took the amazing photos below). I think that’s about a thousand favours we owe him now. Unfortunately the music tends to be the last thing people book so we rarely get a chance to recommend photographers, who tend to get snapped up early.

Like every wedding we’ve done with Rick, this one was non-stop fun. Ness and Zac were the dream couple. So outgoing, so appreciative, and nothing fazed them on the day. They hired me to provide recorded music at their ceremony, play solo over cocktails, then switch to DJ for the reception. Ness and Zac were both super-organised in the leadup to their wedding, especially about the music. They entered the reception to Everlasting Love by Love Affair, and did their first dance to Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac.
 

 
 
Then it was into one of the wildest dance floors I’ve ever experienced. My favourite bit was a couple of song medleys they’d given me. One was called Night at the Roxbury, and the other a set of ABBA B-sides. They wanted me to play only about 30 seconds of each song before mixing into the next one. Quite the challenge, but so much fun, and the crowd loved it! Last songs of the night were three classics: Believe by Cher, Angels by Robbie Williams, and Love Story by Taylor Swift. The farewell/exit song was Fading by Vallis Alps, and the guests were given glow sticks and made an arch for the newlyweds to run out under.
