Northern Victoria Wedding Music

Northern Victoria is a land of contrasts, with fertile river plains, arid outback fringes, and rugged mountain landscapes. The historic towns along the Murray River and its tributaries are home to many of Victoria’s best wedding venues. Read about the best musicians, bands, and DJs for weddings in Echuca, Yarrawonga, Albury, Wangaratta, and Swan Hill.
Echuca Wedding Musician
Shannon and Josh were married in Echuca on a hot day in February. Josh is born and bred in Echuca, while Shannon is a city boy. This booking only came in a couple of weeks before the wedding, as the DJ they booked had pulled out. Luckily I was available and I got to do this awesome, awesome wedding.

They hired me to DJ their Echuca wedding reception, but when they heard I was also a musician they loved the idea of some solo acoustic music as well. Their venue Radcliffe’s is a unique space with lots of greenery and plenty of room for a big sit-down reception. Formalities kicked off with a high-energy and very funny wedding party entrance. Other highlights were a young girl getting up to sing karaoke to My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion – very cute, and the grooms loved it. And for Josh and Shannon’s first dance Shannon’s school friend Emily had something special planned:
Shannon and Josh are the kinds of people who love making recommendations, and I’ve bumped into them at several events since, including the wedding of Steph and Carl in Moama (see below), the wedding of Emily and Jordan in Geelong, and Josh’s mum’s 50th birthday party in Echuca. I should pay some people a commission!
Moama Acoustic Duo
We met Amy and Aaron at a live showcase we held in St Kilda. I was impressed that they’d driven all the way down to Melbourne from their home in Echuca just to meet us and hear us play, but they explained that as country people they were used to driving long distances. They were married beside the Murray River at Tindarra Resort, Moama. This is an excellent wedding venue. The big purpose-built marquee is the perfect space for a reception, and the couple put their own stamp on it with some rustic decor, including a salvaged window and antique chairs.

Amy and Aaron hired our acoustic duo to perform at their Moama wedding. They had quite an alternative taste in music. Amy walked down the aisle to Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap. They asked us to learn the Something For Kate’s cover of Sweet Nothing by Calvin Harris and Florence Welch from Triple J Like A Version for the signing. And they walked back up the aisle together to You Got The Love by Florence and the Machine.

Cocktails were held in the nearby stables, then the guests wandered over to the marquee for the reception. The couple entered to the John Butler Trio’s version of Happy by Pharrell Williams. Their first dance was to Adore by Amy Shark. After that I opened the dance floor and hit the decks to DJ the night out.
Milawa Acoustic Trio
Isabella and Wade hire our acoustic trio and DJ for their wedding at Brown Brothers Winery in Milawa. It was a perfect summer’s day and we performed live outside the barn doors for the guests as they relaxed over cocktails. I’m not sure what’s going on with my hair in this photo:

Then we moved inside for the reception and continued playing over dinner. The bridal party entered the reception to Touch The Sky by Kanye West. Isabella and Wade chose Fast Car by Tracy Chapman for their first dance. Beautiful song.

Requests for the dance floor were geared towards 90s and 00s RnB, boy bands, and hip hop, with a smattering of wedding classics like Sweet Caroline. It was a hot night, so guests alternated between dancing in the barn and going outside for a breather, but the floor always had a hard core of dancers on it. The couple said goodbye to their guests over Give Me Love by Ed Sheeran.
Moama Wedding DJ
Stephanie and Carl asked me to be the musician and DJ for their Moama wedding. Dungula Events Centre is an amazing venue on the Murray River. It features a large deck overlooking a pretty ornamental lake, perfect for ceremonies. The reception space is a massive purpose-built marquee that can hold 400 guests seated.
As country people the playlist leaned towards country music and oldies. Like many people I’ve become a fan of country music in recent years, and it’s nice to discover new artists and songs through weddings. Steph walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of Everlong by the Foo Fighters. The couple walked back up the aisle to Forever After All by Luke Combs. We had a lovely father-daughter dance at the reception, to It Won’t Be Like This For Long by Darius Rucker. And Steph and Carl did their first dance to Chandelier of Stars by John Williamson.
