The Mornington Peninsula is a stunning coastal region, offering a mix of serene beaches, rugged cliffs, and rolling hinterland. It’s a beloved wedding destination, known for its relaxed vibe, natural beauty, and a blend of seaside charm and upscale indulgence. Read about the best musicians, bands, and DJs for weddings in Sorrento, Mornington, Red Hill, Dromana, and Mount Martha.
Sorrento Wedding Musician
I met up with Chantal and Brad for a chat at True South in Black Rock six months before their wedding. They were a lovely, gracious couple, and I was looking forward to being the solo musician at their Sorrento beach wedding.

The wedding was held at All Smiles Sorrento Ocean Beach. This is one of our favourite venues on Mornington Peninsula. Venue manager Kat Sillars is a superstar. She juggles multiple roles with ease – the only person I know of who manages a venue and is the civil celebrant at the same wedding. The other big drawcard here is the view. Sorrento Backbeach is a dramatic place. The ceremony, cocktails, and reception locations all overlook the ocean. Although we’ve been lucky enough to get perfect days every time we’ve played there, it would be just as impressive on a stormy day.

Chantal and Brad hired me to play solo at their wedding ceremony and cocktails. I sang and played guitar at the ceremony, but brought along the drums for a more upbeat vibe at the cocktails. It was a fun, relaxed afternoon by the sea. Sometimes my job doesn’t feel like work at all.
Mount Martha Acoustic Duo
Alysha and Sean were originally slated to be married at Stillwater at Crittenden in Dromana. However Covid lockdowns got in the way, and they had to reschedule at a different wedding venue in Mount Martha: South Beach Project. They opted to be married in a public park over the road from the venue. Mornington Peninsula wedding gurus Plan A Events and Little Big Vows did the planning. It was great to catch up with these ladies, whom we’d bumped into at other weddings on the Peninsula. We performed as an acoustic duo during the ceremony, then walked over the road to the venue and continued playing live in the courtyard for cocktails.

South Beach Project mainly functions as a cafe. My first thought was that it was going to be a loud space, but then I noticed they’d installed acoustic panels on the ceiling. This made a huge difference. It’s so much more pleasant being in a space where everyone is not shouting at each other to be heard. It was a fun, low-key wedding reception to DJ, and I got lots of requests from left-field to keep me on my toes.
Mornington Wedding Band
Christine and Andrew hired our four piece band to play at their wedding reception at Mornington Golf Club. This venue was a pleasant surprise. Extremely well set up and with lovely helpful staff. The couple wanted minimal fuss and formality, just lots of dancing and a big party. There were lots of kids there and it was a real family vibe. As the guests mingled and the sun went down over the bay we kicked into some background music. Our drummer Michael had brought his electronic kit so it was no problem to keep the volume under control for this part of the reception.

Christine and Andrew entered the reception to Crazy In Love by Beyoncé. They chose All Of Me by John Legend for their first dance. After that the band kicked off the dance floor. As they were such an easygoing couple and we had plenty of setup time up our sleeves we took the opportunity to film the band’s performance:
It’s always nice to hang out with the band. It’s a very different vibe to a DJ. We made some good friends on the night. One of these was Jimbo from Jimbo’s Amazing Photobooth. The MC was a drummer, and with permission from the newlyweds he jumped up and played a song with us. By a mere coincidence our bassist Jones later found himself playing in a jazz band with him. Another coincidence: the photographer Mano hailed from the exact same suburb in India as Jones. What are the chances?
Dromana Wedding DJ
Speaking of coincidences. I found out at this wedding that I went to the same high school as the bride and groom (though a decade apart). Between DJing I had a good reminisce with some of the guests about our favourite and not-so favourite teachers. Alanah and Jake were married at Tanglewood Estate in Dromana. This one was a referral from a referral, so it was great to see some familiar faces from past weddings.

Alex from Motta Weddings captured Alanah and Jake’s first dance perfectly (photo above). They chose Could I Have This Dance by Anne Murray. Halfway through they asked me to go straight into Dancing Queen by ABBA. The guests needed little encouragement to swarm onto the dance floor. I knew from previous weddings for some of this crew that they would hit the dance floor hard. I wasn’t disappointed. The floor didn’t clear until the bus arrived almost 3 hours later.

I was thrilled to receive this thank you note and photo in the mail from Alanah and Jake. It always bowls me over that couples will make the time to send something so thoughtful to lowly wedding vendors like myself!
