Geelong Wedding Music

Weddings > Victoria > Geelong
Geelong is the gateway to the Bellarine Peninsula and Surf Coast. The area features a wide range of stellar wedding venues, with ceremony locations from peaceful parks, historic buildings, and vineyards, to some of Victoria’s best beaches. Read about the musicians, bands, and DJs we’ve provided for weddings in Geelong, Barwon Heads, Ocean Grove, Queenscliff, Portarlington, Anglesea, and Lorne.
Barwon Heads Wedding Singer
I do love a laidback bride and groom, and Tatum and Tom were the epitome of that. So chill! Even when they got caught out in a sudden rain storm while having their photos taken on the jetty they didn’t lose their cool. To start with they only booked me a month out. So there was minimal back-and-forth before the wedding, and they left most of the smaller details up to me. They had booked At The Heads, which is situated on the Barwon Heads jetty itself. Amazing space, spectacular views of the Barwon river entrance, the heads, and the ocean. And Maddy and the team who run the venue are just lovely.
Tatum and Tom hired me as singer and guitarist and DJ for their Barwon Heads wedding. They opted for me to perform solo acoustic at their pre-ceremony. The guests were fun and engaging, and I even took song requests. That’s a first for a ceremony! The couple wanted for recorded music for the procession, signing, and recessional, which I handled as well. The roiling river and a king high tide sending freak waves crashing up onto the path made for a spectacular backdrop. And I always love to see wedding dogs, especially when they’re as beautiful and well-behaved as these two babies:
I continued performing solo over cocktails inside the reception space. The venue has a curtain halfway down the room – this is a great idea, and more venues should do it. Not only does it improve the acoustics, but it keeps guests out until the reception starts, and also allows for a room reveal. Tatum and Tom had a cocktail tower (as opposed to a champagne tower). After pouring this they went straight into their first dance: Can’t Take My Eyes Off You by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Despite being a Thursday night the dance floor was fun and hectic, with the venue providing glow sticks for the guests to dance with.
Lorne Wedding Musician
Claire and Joel attended one of our live showcase nights in Melbourne about 6 months before their Lorne wedding. I found them to be a lovely, chill couple, and I could tell their wedding was going to be lots of fun. They ended up booking me solo for their pre-dinner drinks and wedding reception.
They chose Lorne Beach Pavilion as their wedding venue. The original plan was to hold the ceremony on the beach, but the weather forecast was looking a bit touch-and-go, so a decision was made to hold everything inside the venue. In any case the venue has great views of the beach for the guests to enjoy – especially Claire’s Scottish family, many of whom had flown out to Australia for the wedding.
I was an observer only at the ceremony. It was held in the same space in which I was setting up. This can be a problem sometimes, but it was fine in this case as I was well out of the way of the ceremony and my equipment wasn’t in the way of any photos. Celebrant Laura Lehmann did an excellent job and had all the guests laughing. She had some great material to work with from Claire and Joel though – a couple who don’t take themselves too seriously.
Pre-dinner drinks ensued. Usually as a wedding singer you’re background noise at pre-dinner drinks, but things picked up rather quickly. I soon found myself taking requests, including the Scottish classic 500 Miles by The Proclaimers. And as they say in clickbait articles, you won’t believe what happened next:
After that I was largely left to my own devices, as the guests were seated for dinner in an adjoining room that was neverthless within sight and earshot. At this point I got to know Matt and Lexi from Morden Productions (who took the photo above). It’s always nice to befriend another supplier at a wedding. Matt in particular loves his music. After speeches (Claire and Joel opted not to do a first dance) I switched to DJ, we opened up the dance floor, and it was party time until the last song (Closing Time by Semisonic).
Bellarine Peninsula Duo
I first met Sam and Tyson about a year before their wedding, at my local pub in Blackwood. They were up there for a mini holiday on the Easter long weekend (Sam has family in Blackwood) and I was playing at the pub. It’s always nice to meet a couple before their wedding. I liked them both straight away. They were obviously a bit flummoxed by the prospect of organising a wedding, and just wanted some reassurance and to pick my brains. Well that’s what I’m here for.
Sam and Tyson originally had their heart set on hiring me solo and as the DJ for their Bellarine Peninsula wedding. However a week before their wedding I came down with shingles. Very painful. And to make matters worse it was in my face. Although by the day of their wedding I was no longer infectious, singing was out of the question (I could barely talk). Luckily one of my singers was available that day, and she stepped in to handle the vocals. The show must go on!
Flying Brick Cider Co. is a fantastic family-run venue in Wallington, fifteen minutes from Geelong. The venue team were lovely, helpful, and considerate. Great also to meet Lachlan Chatfield on the day – the talented young photographer who took the photos above.
We performed I’m With You by Vance Joy for Sam as she walked down the aisle. This is a beautiful song (way better than the ubiquitous Riptide in my humble opinion). Sam and Tyson asked our duo to perform the Toploader version of Dancing in the Moonlight for their first dance. It went off! Then I switched to DJ and launched into their request list of party bangers and classic rock.
Now Sam and Tyson had originally stipulated they wanted no farewell. However I checked with them on the night and they had changed their minds. So as an encore I made a last-minute decision to pop on Sam’s procession song for a spontaneous last dance (see above). Lovely moment, and the perfect way to cap off a wedding.
Geelong Acoustic Duo
I first ran into Olivia and Dylan at the wedding of Lauren And James in Pearcedale. It’s always nice to meet a couple before their wedding. Also lovely to bump into past couples – in this case Lauren and James.
Liv and Dyl booked us for their entire wedding. Our soloist sang at their wedding ceremony in the Geelong Botanical Gardens, and our Acoustic Duo and DJ performed at their cocktails and reception. This was held at Sailors Rest, a bustling pub-style venue located on the Geelong foreshore overlooking Corio Bay. They have a cool function space out the back of the venue, with a marquee that opens onto the bar, catering for both indoor and outdoor events.
The acoustic duo session over pre-dinner drinks and the cocktail style reception was lively and fun. For their first dance the couple opted for the acoustic duo to perform Tenerife Sea by Ed Sheeran live. This is a beautiful song and an absolute pleasure to sing. Then I switched to DJ, and the party took off like a rocket. We get to experience some rowdy dance floors, but Olivia & Dylan’s took it to a new level.
Geelong Wedding Band
I first met Emily and Jordan up in Echuca, where Emily sang at the wedding of her friend Shannon. The following year they invited our four piece band to play at their wedding reception in Geelong. They booked The Pier, a spectacular venue on the end of Cunningham Pier on the Geelong foreshore. It has two massive reception spaces with views over Corio Bay, as well as a narrow terrace perfect for a wedding ceremony.
Emily and Jordan decided on a Back to the Future theme for their wedding. The decor was on point – they even had hoverboards. Our band recreated the iconic scene from that movie, performing Earth Angel by Harry Waters Jr. for the first dance, with Emily’s cousin Kat singing and playing sax (Kat, an amazing musician, has since joined the Matt Black team). Then we launched into Johnny B Goode, with the bride herself on lead vocals:
After that the band (accompanied by Kat) kicked in with two sets of dance floor music.
Geelong Wedding DJ
I met Laura and Gareth at another wedding in the Yarra Valley. Unfortunately I was already booked the night of their wedding, but Scott was free and came down from Moama to DJ for them. They held their wedding on a property in Moolap, on the outskirts of Geelong. They had a perfect setup for an indoor/outdoor wedding reception. There’s nothing better than a DIY wedding at a private property when it’s done right.
Laura and Gareth chose How Do I Live by LeAnn Rimes for their first dance. Their music tastes spanned 90s, 00s, RnB, boy bands, and Blink 182, and we were under strict instructions not to play any ABBA. Do Not Play lists are just as helpful to us as request lists, and we encourage them.
Scott as usual hit it out of the park, and he had a high energy dance floor with lots of funny moments (yes that’s the groom with his shirt off!)
Wallington DJ & Sax
We love surprise weddings! Emma and Rhys held theirs at Oakdene Vineyards in Wallington on the Bellarine Peninsula. The weather gods were not kind to us that day, and it didn’t stop raining, but that didn’t stop us. The venue is perfectly set up for all kinds of weather, with a large marquee adjoining the cellar door.
Emma and Rhys booked a combo of soloist, DJ, and sax, which was handled by Matt and saxman James. Audience participation was the order of the night.
We had a guest singer and a hard core of dancers tearing up the floor. Emma and Rhys are an alternative couple (their wedding cake was black, with skulls!) so we had lots of interesting music requests from them and their guests. A fun and different wedding, and very memorable.
