The Dandenong Ranges are a green escape known for towering forests, misty valleys, and quaint hilltop villages. Under an hour from Melbourne, they draw weekenders escaping the city for their cool climate and storybook charm. Read about the best musicians, bands, and DJs for weddings in Mount Dandenong, Olinda, Sassafras, Sherbrooke, Monbulk, and Belgrave.
Sherbrooke Acoustic Duo
2021 was a nightmare year for events in Victoria, with so many postponed weddings caused by the government’s covid lockdowns. One of our couples had to postpone their wedding four times! However there were some lucky couples like Jessie and Brandon who just happened to choose the right date. Theirs was our first wedding back after months of madness. Suffice to say everyone was excited about it.

Jessie and Brandon chose Marybrooke Manor in beautiful Sherbrooke for their wedding. And their luck held: the weather was perfect for their wedding ceremony in the lovely gardens there, with the rain only coming down after we’d relocated inside to the bar for cocktails. Jessie chose to walk down the aisle to Better Together by Jack Johnson. For the signing the couple chose Can’t Help Falling In Love by Elvis Presley, and Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. They walked back up the aisle to Ho Hey by The Lumineers.

The bridal party entered the reception to On Top of the World by Imagine Dragons. For their first dance Jessie and Brandon asked us to learn Sanctuary by Welshly Arms. Then the dance floor opened. At the time there was a truly ridiculous restriction on weddings in Victoria that only allowed the bridal party to dance. Well that lasted about 5 minutes. I was relieved to see that common decency and humanity prevailed. After the last 18 months of being micromanaged by public health authorities it was clear everyone just wanted to let their hair down.
Monbulk Acoustic Trio
Log Cabin Ranch is a rustic DIY-style venue in the Dandenong Ranges. For the animal-lovers there are farm animals on the property, including a friendly donkey. It was the perfect venue for Kylie and Brett’s wedding: a relaxed family affair with lots of kids. They chose to hold their reception inside the Barn as well as just outside it under the festoon lights.

The newlyweds hired our acoustic trio for the reception. This consisted of a female singer/pianist, male singer/guitarist/drummer, and male singer/bassist. The venue doesn’t allow amplified music outside due to noise restrictions, so we were limited to the Barn, however we had plenty of listeners early on, and everyone hit the dance floor later. Kylie and Brett chose Stand By Me by The Drifters for their first dance. This was followed by Born To Be My Baby by Bon Jovi. Last songs of the night were I Need A Hero by Bonnie Tyler, The Horses by Daryl Braithwaite, and Always by Bon Jovi.
Mount Dandenong Wedding Band
Giselle and Davidson’s wedding ceremony was held in the Secret Garden at SkyHigh Mount Dandenong. They opted for our four piece acoustic band, consisting of female singer, male singer/guitarist, percussionist, and saxophonist. Here’s a clip of us performing at this wedding:
Giselle walked down the aisle to a string quartet version of Pachelbel’s Canon in D. Apart from that the couple weren’t fussy, and were happy to leave the music choices to us.

After the ceremony the rest of the band bumped out and I relocated to the reception room to DJ the reception. This is a spectacular space at the very top of Mount Dandenong, and has easily the best view in the Dandenong Ranges. It was a relaxed night, and as is common with Asian weddings things wound up fairly quickly after speeches and the meal service had ended. That said the guests were very friendly and appreciative, and clearly enjoyed the music.

Tatra Receptions in Mount Dandenong is a venue we’re very familiar with, having played at many weddings there over the years. It’s well run, and perfectly equipped for any kind of wedding, with a huge reception space, big dance floor, stage, and a beautiful ceremony site outdoors. However Kristen and Daniel chose to get married in the pretty chapel on site at Tatra. Before the ceremony started I met groom Daniel, had a brief chat (usually this means me cracking some stupid joke in an attempt to calm his nerves), and grabbed a quick pic:

Kristen and Daniel hired our acoustic duo to provide the music for the ceremony. Kristen walked down the aisle to A Thousand Years by Christina Perri – one of our favourites to play. Afterwards we relocated outside for lawn games and canapes.

Then it was time for the reception. Our acoustic duo continued performing background music over dinner. Speeches followed – including a memorable speech from the father of the bride that had everyone in stitches. Kristen and Daniel sent me a mashup of songs for their choreographed first dance, which got more laughs. Then I hit the decks and opened the dance floor. It was a wild one. The guests were a fun and friendly crew, and I had a full dance floor until the very last song.
