Keilor Wedding Musicians
Jade and Corey hired our acoustic duo for their wedding ceremony and cocktails at Overnewton Castle in Keilor. They had only booked us a month out, as their original duo had cancelled on them due to Covid restrictions. But that’s never a problem for us (assuming we’re available, which we were). Wedding plans tend to change a lot, and we never put too much stock in details provided for weddings booked years out. It’s really only in the final couple of weeks that we get some of the vital details like times and song choices locked down. And some of our favourite weddings have been last-minute bookings.
The lovely Jade asked me to play an instrumental version of From This Moment On by Shania Twain for her procession:
We were asked to play Heaven by Bryan Adams and Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat for the signing. Unusually, they skipped the recessional after they were announced, and went straight to the group photo. After that we played for cocktail hour as the guests mingled on the lawn. They were an enthusiastic crowd who were a lot of fun to interact with. Lots of song requests and compliments!
Collingwood Acoustic Duo
Kat and David held their entire wedding inside Rupert on Rupert in Collingwood. They hired our acoustic duo to perform at the ceremony through first half of the reception. Kat asked us to play Blackbird by The Beatles for the procession. We performed I’m Yours by Jason Mraz during the signing, and You Got The Love by Florence & the Machine for the recessional. Their first dance was to The Horses by Daryl Braithwaite. Studio Blue Tulip took this photo of us in action:
Rupert on Rupert is a hip, alternative venue, with several spaces suitable for different parts of a wedding. The photobooth from Heartbreak Hotel was put in an adjacent area somewhat away from the action, but nevertheless it saw plenty of action:
I was delighted to bump into Kat and David again a year later at their friends’ wedding in Mount Dandenong. Truly lovely people.
Brunswick Wedding Band
Ashlee and Mark hired our three piece band for their Brunswick wedding reception. They chose Brunswick Mess Hall (since rebranded as Welcome to Brunswick) as their venue. This is a fantastic open space. With 150 guests invited and the ceremony being held at one end of the room, Ashlee and Mark opted for a cocktail-style reception. Here are the guests posing for a group photo after the ceremony:
Our band kicked into an upbeat acoustic set over canapes. The bridal party re-entered the room to I Believe In A Thing Called Love by The Darkness – great choice. After that we took a break and got to experience the venue’s amazing Thai food. Out of this world. Speeches followed. Ashlee and Mark had been reluctant to do a first dance, and decided on the night to skip it. So the band kicked off with the party songs and the dance floor opened. But the couple weren’t going to escape that easily. At the end of the night I saw they were on the dance floor and put on their first dance song (All Of Me by John Legend). So we got an unplanned last dance instead:
All in all a wildly successful wedding, and a lot of fun.
Farm Vigano Wedding DJ
Well this was a special wedding for us. When we heard our friend Courtney from Yarra Valley Estate wanted us to play at her wedding we were over the moon. As an experienced event manager we knew she was going to have the dream team at her wedding, and we weren’t disappointed. The ceremony was presided over by one of our favourite celebrants: Elisa Westein. And photographer extraordinaire Rick Liston was on hand to take the shots, including this one of Courtney and Phil nailing their first dance:
Farm Vigano is a ripper venue in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Italian owned, the food is to die for. Courtney and Phil opted for our acoustic duo for their ceremony, cocktails, and first half of the reception. They asked us to learn I Get To Love You by Ruelle for the procession, and Send Me On My Way by Rusted Root for the recessional. Great songs that went on to become mainstays of our acoustic duo repertoire.
Our DJ Paz took over at the reception, and she got to spin all the cheesiest wedding classics, with the couple at the centre of the action.
