The Melbourne CBD is packed with stellar wedding venues, from leafy parks to historic buildings, busy pubs, restaurants, and the coolest bars. We’ve provided musicians, bands, and DJs for hundreds of weddings in the city of Melbourne. Read about some of them below.
Melbourne Acoustic Duo
Arc One Gallery behind iconic Melbourne restaurant Cumulus Inc is an unique space for a small wedding. The incredible art on the walls makes a great starting point, but it’s a space where you can really cut loose with your own unique styling and decor. Nah-mi and Ben wanted discreet acoustic music to suit their intimate (about 65 guests) wedding. Our acoustic duo fit the bill.

Asian wedding receptions are always fun. They’re all about food, family, ceremony, and of course, music. There’s always plenty of interaction and appreciation from the guests. And it’s rare not to get a bit of impromptu karaoke towards the end of the night.

Nah-mi and Ben eschewed a first dance, instead asking us to learn Something Just Like This by Coldplay and The Chainsmokers for their cake cutting. While opting for simple playlists over a DJ service, it didn’t stop guests hitting the dance floor and requesting some bangers. Nah-mi and Ben asked us to perform Perfect by Ed Sheeran to finish off the night.

Docklands Acoustic Trio
Melanie and Mark chose All Smiles Melbourne Waterfront in Docklands for their wedding. This is a spectacular venue on the first floor above Cargo restaurant, overlooking the water. Mel and Mark wanted to keep things simple. They chose to hold their ceremony in the same room at the venue and go straight into the reception. The entire wedding came in at under 6 hours. But at no time did it feel rushed. It was relaxed and casual, just the way they wanted it.

The couple wanted the feeling of a band at their wedding without it being intrusive. The acoustic trio was the obvious choice. They chose a lineup including female singer and pianist, male singer/guitarist/drummer, and male singer/bassist. With four instruments and three part vocal harmonies, this lineup has a big, full sound, while keeping a tight lid on the volume.

Mel and Mark chose We Are Going To Be Friends by The White Stripes for their bridal party procession, while Mel walked down the aisle to All I Want Is You by Barry Louis Polisar. They chose Somewhere Only We Know by Keane and Grow Old With Me by Tom Odell for the signing of the marriage documents. Then it was Send Me On My Way by Rusted Root for the recessional. The bridal party entered the reception to a classic: Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen. Their first dance was to Life Eternal by Ghost:
Melbourne Wedding Band
Rebekah and Andrew thought they were only getting me at their Carlton Gardens wedding ceremony. However Rebekah’s mother Lesley had been working quietly in the background to book our 7 piece band as a surprise. The couple are big fans of the movie Love Actually, in which a flashmob crashes a wedding by playing All You Need Is Love by The Beatles.

Now this is a tricky thing to pull off. Well, impossible. Movies aren’t real life. To get anything like the desired effect I knew it would take some careful and discreet organisation behind the scenes. I started things off by singing and playing guitar. Kristen walked over and began singing and playing percussion. Then our violinst Zac weaved through the guests like a dervish. Cam, who had been sitting at a nearby park bench, stood up with his trombone. Stu and Aaron laid into their tenor and soprano saxes. Finally, Miles picked up his trumpet. Confusion turned to realisation, then laughter. It had worked. About as well as could be expected at least. Phew.
After the recessional we regrouped and continued to play as a seven piece over cocktails. Relying only on battery power, we smashed out a set of classics like a New Orleans street band. Kristen and the boys are all gun musicians, and it was a blast.

When same-sex marriage was legalised in Australia in 2017 we found the ladies to be much quicker than the gents to jump on the wedding wagon. In fact our first gay wedding didn’t happen until over a year later. Nigel and Peter had already been together for decades, so probably figured what was the rush? They chose The Grand Hyatt in the Melbourne CBD to host their entire wedding. Nigel and Peter knew exactly what they wanted, providing plenty of detail (we always prefer this to too little). And there was lots of consultation in the lead-up to the big day. One thing we had to do was make sure there was a baby grand piano at the ceremony and that it was in tune.
The ceremony took place outside in the courtyard, with the excellent Pete The Celebrant officiating. Nigel and Peter asked our acoustic duo to learn the Human Nature version of Love Is All Around for their procession. Their friend Naomi, accompanied by her husband Alex on piano, then played Evergreen by Barbara Streisand and Your Song by Elton John during the signing. It’s always a pleasure to witness friends or family give a couple the gift of music, and these two were superb. For the recessional our duo were asked to learn Bette Midler’s version of the Motown classic Going To The Chapel – a fun and upbeat song to wrap up a wedding ceremony with.

Cocktails followed, also in the courtyard, then dinner inside. Then back outside again, with me switching to DJ for a high energy dance floor. I was asked to spin lots of Kylie Minogue (no it it’s not just a stereotype), along with plenty of 70s disco and 80s pop hits from Nigel and Peter’s youth. So much fun!
Wedding DJ Melbourne
Beth and Tully were married at Park Hyatt Melbourne. We were honoured to be invited to their wedding. The ceremony took place in the courtyard at the hotel, and Beth chose Shower by Becky G as her procession song (there’s a story behind this but it’s a secret), which we performed as an acoustic duo while the brilliant Andrew Redman handled the legalities.

Later for the reception we switched over to DJ. The room at the Park Hyatt is seriously impressive, and although it was a small wedding in a big room it still felt intimate. Beth and Tully struck just the right note: casual, family atmosphere with minimal formalities. They love their soul and RnB, and for the first dance they chose These Arms of Mine by Otis Redding (a favourite of mine too). Although choreography can be cool, sometimes it’s nice to see a first dance that isn’t a rehearsed spectacle, and in this case it made for a beautiful, natural moment. Then it was time for everyone else to hit the dancefloor, and we witnessed some pretty slick moves, especially from a couple of the older male guests.
It was a thrill to learn later that Beth and Tully’s wedding was featured in Ever After Magazine.
